Peter is a nationally recognized leader in the field of intellectual property (IP), whose unique practice focuses on the many aspects of IP, both domestically and internationally.

Peter is a Global IP Portfolio Manager, Patent and Trademark Prosecutor, Patent Litigator, Adjunct Professor of Patent Law, Business Advisor, Copyright and Trade Secret Attorney, and his practice includes management of IP portfolios, patent licensing, IP legal opinions, counseling on IP strategies, and IP due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions.

He has extensive knowledge of the requirements and procedures for procurement of intellectual property and enforcement of rights and a complete understanding of how such intangible assets affect a corporation and strategies for best capitalizing on such assets globally. 

Over 24 Years Of Experience

Peter regularly counsels clients and renders opinions concerning trademarks and the patentability of ideas, infringement/non-infringement of patents, the validity/invalidity of patents, and the design of products and processes to avoid potential infringement assertions.

Clients benefit from Peter’s experience and his ability to understand complex technologies, giving him the unique edge to offer cohesive and innovative solutions to help develop, manage, and protect their intellectual assets.

In his long career, Peter has personally written and prosecuted hundreds of patents in the vast area of technology. He has a strong technological background and his prosecution experience encompasses a very wide range of electrical and electromechanical technologies. Peter’s prosecution experience also encompasses a wide range of mechanical technologies, software, medical devices, and business methods.

Peter was previously a shareholder and head of the Sheehan, Phinney’s Patent Law and Intellectual Property and Technology Law Groups. For the past 10 consecutive years, while Peter was head of the groups, they were honored by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine as the Intellectual Property, Tier 1, Highly Recommended law firm in New Hampshire.
